Islamic calligraphy, colloquially known as Arabic calligraphy, is the artistic practice of handwriting, or calligraphy, and by extension, of bookmaking, in the lands sharing a common Islamic cultural heritage. This art form is based on the Arabic script, which for a long time was used by all Muslims in their respective communities.

Mathabah Foundation invites you to experience a unique seminar, designed to help you develop skills in the art of calligraphy and as a result also develop appreciation, connection and love of the Quran, the final revelation of God to humanity, through the Arabic art of calligraphy.

Join Shaykh Yusuf Badat (qualified and professional calligrapher) as you learn the history of this majestic art throughout the ages. Students will also be given materials to create their own works.

In this course you shall learn and cover:  (25% Theory and 75% Hands On)

• History of Islamic art and its various forms
• History of Arabic & Islamic Calligraphy
• Calligraphy and Quranic Scrolls
• Expression through Almighty Allah’s words
• Elaboration on Arabic fonts and styles
• Fonts of North Eastern Arabia, Quraish, Umaayyads & Abbasids
• Tools & writing instruments for mastering Arabic calligraphy
• Hands on activities to learn, practice and master Arabic calligraphy by:
  • Preparing scales and measurements for Arabic calligraphy
  • Writing Arabic alphabets in the fonts of naskh, thuluth, riq'aah, farsi anddiwaani
  • Writing and learning how to connect letters in Arabic calligraphy - short and long
  • Writing Arabic calligraphy in shapes to enhance beauty
  • Creating a master piece of your own
